The Value of Community-Based Learning

For me, community-based learning is about finding your strengths and learning how you can help other people. By working with people in the community you are able to widen your circle of friends and connections. Whether it be through a local internship with a concert promoter or volunteering at a local elementary school, there is always something new to learn about your community. I have never had a more meaningful education than the one I have received at New Roots Charter School. New Roots has taught me that I can affect the lives of those around me in a positive way. I will always carry with me the lessons I learned from our community-based work, like when we planted cattails to help clean up our watershed or learning the local history through an historical walking tour
